In the end of the match, Italy's adventure finished as well as France's. The two teams who reached the final 4 years ago, failed sensationally.
For the third time italian coach Lippi was forced to change the lineup of his team. This time he sent on the field Di Natale (to add fantasy) and Gattuso (to add determination and experience).
Slovakia lined up the same team of the past games, pretty much.
The beginning of the match is unbelievable. Slovakia, which against Paraguay was not even able to pass or stop the ball, overwhelmed Italy. And they deserved it, because they were better.
Italy was very lazy, it was clear that the players didn't want to play that match. They were too tired... probably because of the training Lippi organized in Sestriere (a popular italian city, with an elevation of 6,677 ft).
The team lacked of both fantasy and determination (proof that Lippi failed the lineup).
The first goal by Slovakia was like a cold shower: a slovakian player steals the ball and passes it to Vittek, running alone in Italy's area. Shoot. Goal.
The second was pure negligence.
The third a beginners' mistake.
I already said it. Italians were tired.
The only ones who could save us a little were Pirlo and Quagliarella. The former was a star 4 years ago, unfortunately he got an injury so he wasn't in shape... but still, he was good today. The latter played with heart, because it was his first time in a world cup.
But anyway. Slovakians deserved to win. They always made our life difficult. They were physically stronger and they also pressed us during all the first half. That's how you win a match (ask Mourinho).
And so... we go back home. Humiliated. I guess it was the only way to put the word END to the glorious Italy, 2006 world cup winner.
***added later***
